May 2026

From the Pastor's Desk

There is no true, biblical worship of Jesus and following Jesus without the Jesus of the Bible. Likewise, there is no true, biblical discipleship without the Bible. Finally, there is no faithful church without the faithful preaching and teaching of the Bible. The Bible is central in every aspect of Christianity and critical to every activity within Christendom. Therefore, interpretation of the Bible, known as hermeneutics, is of extreme importance in the life of every church and every Christian.

As we focus on becoming disciples of Christ who make disciples of Christ in 2026, we recognize the need for deliberate, systematic instruction in hermeneutics. To fulfill this need, we will begin an in-depth study of hermeneutics on Wednesday, June 10th. Our study will take place during our Wednesday Night Adult Service. Please make every effort to attend. In addition to the Bible, we will be consulting Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart’s book, How to Read the Bible for All It’s Worth. You can purchase this book from Amazon or anywhere else Christian books are sold.

As we begin to think about reading and interpreting God’s Word correctly may Paul’s words to Timothy ring loudly in our heads: Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth (2 Timohty 2:15). May what was said about the Bereans be said of the good people of Bethel Baptist Church: The people [in Berea] were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, since they welcomed the message with eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so (Acts 17:11).
